CHIEF JUSTICE REYNATO PUNO FOR PRESIDENT??

There is an unfolding teleserye on the Philippine political scene nowadays. The incumbent Chief Justice of the Supreme Court REYNATO PUNO is being prodded by his newly found fans to run for president in 2010. Among his supporters are prominent leaders of the Catholic Church and other sectors of our society to name a few Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz. If the chief justice have his way, he will consult his council of advisers composed of his grandchildren for a possible presidential run. Medyo me konting pacute-cute ang dating dyan ni chief justice ah. Can you imagine? A very important decision in his life and career, sa mga “batang” apo pa ikukonsulta ang lahat. There is already a REYNATO PUNO FOR PRESIDENT MOVEMENT whose organizers are planning to gather two million signatures in order to convince the chief justice to give a shot for the presidency in 2010. And why need a two million signatures anyway? In my opinion, a strong leader doesn’t need any prodding when it comes to making decisions to serve our country. In this case I’m not saying he is weak either. If he is really interested, then now is the time to decide. If it is provided by law that a chief justice can resign and vacate his position to seek an elective post, then wala na dapat na pakipot-kipot pa. He should join now the derby of presidential pretenders dominated by the incumbent senators. He may have the credentials for an untarnished integrity in public service, however, the big question is, does he have the charisma to lead us into a moral revolution in cleansing our government from corruption? Besides, Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago said, if CJ PUNO wants to run, he needs three things. First he needs money. Second he needs money. Third, he needs money. Well that’s a brilliant analysis on how to win the presidency in the Philippines. What do you think???

…cleansing our govt from corruption? We hear this line from most of the candidates before, even from GMA bec she is implying a graft buster and an economist. Does she improve the rusty image of our government? My point here is, whoever runs and wins for the highest position in the land, corruption in the govt can never be cleansed as this is already an epidemic sources of income to most of our leaders.

I agree. I could have written “to minimize” and not to “cleanse” since the latter is not possible as corruption is not that easy to root out especially if the people we have elected into office are the ones pilfering government coffers.
